Workshop on Scaling Energy Start-ups: Entering the German Market – including a deep dive on hydrogen markets
July, 8 2025, online

On 8 July 2025, a digital workshop was held with Israeli energy startups to explore market entry opportunities in the German energy market. Germany offers Israeli startups a dynamic and expanding market, particularly in the field of hydrogen. At the same time, German industry benefits from the innovative strength of Israeli companies. The event not only offered in-depth expertise, but also concrete networking opportunities with players from both countries.
The first part of the event was held by experts from Germany Trade & Invest (GTAI). They provided a comprehensive overview of current trends in the German energy market and key aspects for foreign startups planning to enter this market.
The main topics were:
Digital Hub Initiative: The initiative promotes collaboration between established companies and startups in digital and physical innovation centres. This creates a "win-win" for both sides through the mutual exchange of knowledge and experience.
Energy market & trends: Germany's particularly stable electricity supply is a decisive advantage in the expansion of renewable energies. Green energy production, energy storage and green hydrogen in particular need to be scaled up for the energy transition.
Market entry & company formation: Various forms of company such as the GmbH as well as tax framework conditions and legal aspects of starting a business in Germany were presented.
Funding opportunities: Numerous funding programmes are available to Israeli companies, which vary depending on the startup's stage of development, from early financing rounds to market launch.
The second part of the workshop focussed on the German hydrogen market. The German startup H2UB provided practical insights into the role of hydrogen in the energy transition and the opportunities for cooperation with international partners. The presentation clearly emphasised that networks and international cooperation are essential in order to shape the energy transition together.
