Working Group 1: "Energy Policy Issues"
The Working Group on Energy Policy Issues (WG EPI) serves as a coordinating and advisory body for the cooperation between the executive bodies of Israel and the Federal Republic of Germany in the jointly defined fields of activities. The working group is organised by the Israeli Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), with the possibility of involving other state authorities, representatives of the business and scientific community, and civil society upon mutual agreement.
The working group’s core topics are:
Green Hydrogen: Green hydrogen is a promising energy source that could benefit both Israel and Germany. By removing market barriers and sharing expertise in the hydrogen energy sector, the German-Israeli Energy Partnership aims to accelerate the development of efficient and affordable systems for hydrogen storage, transport, and conversion. The partnership encourages policy shifts and supports new initiatives in this area.
Renewable Energies: The partnership works to increase the capacity of energy grids and infrastructure to generate, store, and utilize energy from sustainable and naturally replenished sources like solar, wind, hydro, geothermal, and biomass.
Energy Efficiency: Buildings consume a significant amount of energy and contribute greatly to greenhouse gas emissions. It is essential to enhance existing buildings and use energy-efficient materials in new construction to minimize energy waste and promote the switch to clean energy sources.
Natural Gas: With the world transitioning to cleaner energy sources, one of the focuses of the working group is the physical submarine gas infrastructure.
